Ettan was developed by the snus manufacturer Jacob Fredrik Ljunglöf in the beginning of the 1800’s. He came up with a unique manufacturing method and which resulted in a snus of higher quality than his competitors’. The original Ettan recipe, containing tobacco, water and salt, has been the same since then. Actually, Ettan Loose tastes exactly the same as it did back in 1822.

In the 1800’s, almost every snus manufacturer named there snus No: 1, No: 2 and No: 3, depending on the quality of the respective snus. Ljunglöf however launched his No: 1 as an own brand and so became the first person with a nationwide quality product.

Since its origins, the Ettan family has slowly grown bigger. Ettan Original Portion was launched in 1990 and Ettan White Portion was added in 2006. Today, Ettan and its classic recipe, are among Sweden’s most popular snus brands, representing about one fifth of all snus sales in Sweden.
